Going Old School Face to Face

Brief Overview

Face-to-face may seem old school and can definitely be scary, but there are huge upside wins to it. In this episode, I am going to tell you about a recent face-to-face encounter that proved to be tremendous.

Backstory

As I mentioned in the last episode, I just got back from Nashville and I already told you all about the Business Boutique Event, but what I didn’t tell you about was what happened after the event. After a full day of helping and sharing with thousands of women entrepreneurs at the Business Boutique Event, Jennifer Allwood and I got together to hold a meetup for our audiences.

We had about 150 people registered and over 120 people from all over the place showed up. We spent the time answering all kinds of questions about growing your audience, growing your memberships and generally just growing your business. There was also a lot of personal development stuff that we were covering as well. It was great to come together and connect with our audiences!

Big Ideas

Meet Your People  [2:50]

Oftentimes, especially with an online business, people become numbers, stats or digits. How many opt-ins did you get? How many buyers did that create? These are just numbers, not real faces. But when you have a meetup, you get to see real people who have real dreams, drive and desire, to get what they want out into this world and to help and serve their audiences.

Deepen The Connection [03:55]

There is nothing that will deepen the connection with your audience more than being there in person with them. This is where you and I are playing the long game. We’re not just in it for the quick win or the short-term sale, we’re in this for the long-term relationship. And when you deepen the connection, you deepen that relationship. This is where people are with you for life, and no matter what you offer, they will say yes, because there’s already a level of trust that is created.

See The Struggle [05:42]

When you’re there in person and you get to see what’s actually happening in someone’s business, it gives you context. And more importantly, it gives you context for how you can help them make more progress. You are able to see where people are getting stuck — and as an entrepreneur, especially when you’re committed to helping your people get a result, you go into solution mode.

Pushing Your People to Get Unstuck [6:25]

There was a woman who attended our meetup, her name was Ginger. While she knew exactly what her business needed next in order to grow, for whatever reason she couldn’t move forward. I knew it was time to help Ginger break through that stuckness and encourage her to keep going. What I recognized with Ginger is that she was overthinking it. She was thinking too far forward, and when you start thinking too far forward, you start over complicating everything, which eventually results in being stuck.

Ginger was at the stage where growing her audience was the most important thing, so I asked her what would be something she could do right now that would be a step toward growing her audience. She immediately knew where I was going with this and asked, “A Facebook Live?” , and I said, “Yes. A Facebook Live.”

The Breakthrough Moment for Ginger [9:00]

Ginger helps people create a warm cozy home with little decorative touches that don’t take a lot of money and energy to develop. We started identifying challenges that her audience typically have around this time of year, and quickly realized that with holidays coming up, people often get stressed out because they don’t know how to decorate their house. After we quickly outlined a basic Facebook Live using my five-part framework, Ginger went live.

Despite being nervous, she nailed it! Everybody in the room was cheering and it was a huge moment. She had tears in her eyes because for so long she had been stuck looking for the things she needed to do to keep moving forward. And just like Ramses in Episode #87, Ginger experienced a huge amount of momentum that one Facebook Live created. Not only did she have views during the Facebook Live, but she also had hundreds and hundreds of views afterwards.

Here’s my point — there’s so much value in being with your people, deepening the connection, and seeing the struggle that they’re experiencing, because it gives you clarity in terms of what you can do to help them break through that. And the more people you help break through that, the more momentum your whole community creates.

Celebrating The Wins [12:18]

You’ll get such a high from not only helping people have a tremendous breakthrough, but to see the wins and the difference that it’s making in people’s lives. When you’re committed as a business owner to helping your audience get a result, there’s nothing more powerful than seeing what those results do for them. It gives you context that the work you’re doing has a real meaning, and it matters.
